Great Lakes Bay Regional Solar Educational Initiative
Developed workshops for public school teachers as part of this collaborative, educational, community based art project; focused on community based art, environmental concerns related to waste, and recycling; instructed teachers to build simple solar powered light and kinetic artworks that they then completed with over 800 students.

Assisted Celeste Roberge to create this outdoor installation of a dry-stacked stone sculpture composed of four pieces of antique, Victorian furniture embedded in two tons of Tennesee sandstone.

Maintained the ceramics studio and equipment, repaired kilns, and mixed glazes. Assisted students in construction methods of hand-built ceramic sculptures and supervised the ceramics studio during open studio hours.

2013 MiTech+ STEM Summit
Presented a breakout session titled "Confluence of STEM and STEAM- Fall In...Art and Sol". The session covered various aspects of the Fall In...Art and Sol festival and especially focused on its unique contributions to STEM education in public schools.

Cleveland Mini Maker Faire, Solar Flower Workshop
Presented public workshops for young children, ages 8-12, and introduced them to the idea of solar art, recycling, and community-based art. Each child learned how to solder and built their own solar flower, a kinetic art work made of recycled materials.

Spiritflow
Spiriflow was installed in Ocala, FL on public art loan for 2 years

International Kinetic Art Exhibition and Symposium
Solar Shimmer was displayed from Feb 3-5 in Boynton Beach, FL, US and was a collaboration with local school teachers and 200 elementary and middle school students. The project was a collaboration between myself and Eleonora Nicoletti and was a 36 foot long solar powered screen composed of 1000 recycled CDs and 200 solar lanterns.

Rose Colored Lenses was installed in Ocala, FL on public art loan for 2 years

2017

Solar Art Festival
Solar Shimmer was a collaborative project between myself and Eleonora Nicoletti and was a solar powered screen composed of 850 CDs and 215 solar lanterns. The pattern for this project was inspired by Bedouin textiles and the solar lanterns were completed by local school children who participated in workshops we presented over the course of two weeks. Doha, Qatar.

Solar Labyrinth
The Solar Labyrinth was commissioned by Dr. Allan Berger of Bright Eyes and Bushy Tails Veterinary Hospital in Iowa City, IA, US. This 1400W photovoltaic system powers glowing illumination through series of 14 plasma-cut aluminum panels depicting various domestic animals enveloped in a regular sine wave pattern.

International Kinetic Art Exhibition and Symposium
Moonflower is a solar powered robotic flower that opens and closes throughout the day and performs a unique choreography of motion and light when the moon is full. Moonflower was on display throughout 2017 in downtown Boynton Beach, FL, US.

Technical Skills

Sculptural Methods • 20 years of experience as a sculptor working in many mediums including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, bronze, carved wood, kiln formed glass, cast plaster, plaster/armature structures, fiberglass, cast resins, ceramics, bamboo and other natural fibers; Experienced welder MIG, TIG, oxy/acetylene, arc welding, plasma cutting, and brazing; Hot metal casting in bronze and aluminum using lost wax/ceramic slurry, plaster investment, and sand casting; Experienced mold-maker in plaster, alginate, and silicone rubber type molds for casting plasters, wax, and various synthetic resins.

Computer Programs •Adobe Creative Suite; Autodesk Maya and Fusion 360; iMovie; Microsoft Office; Programming in C, C++; Mac OS

Interactive/New Media • Broad knowledge of electronics and mechanics relative to interactive and kinetic art; Extensive experience teaching courses using microcontrollers and various sensors such as temperature, light, sonic, infrared, and piezo-electric; Arduino; Raspberry Pi

Digital Fabrication • CNC fabrication, laser and plasma cutting, 3D rendering and printing.

Kinetic/Mechanical • 25 years of experience working with electrical motors, servos, stepper motors, gear systems, pulleys, levers, and pull-string mechanics; various mechanical joints and linkages including sealed bearings, and simple bushings.

Carpentry •25 years of various carpentry experience, mostly in residential construction and finish woodworking; Intimate knowledge of all the various tools of the workshop including table saw, router, drill press, band saw, panel saw, wood lathe, miter saw, angle grinder, wood chisels, pneumatic tools, sand blaster; Broad knowledge of various methods of wood joinery including lamination, mortise and tenon, dovetail, box joints, dado, and biscuit joining.
