Robotic Sculpture

Moonflower is a solar powered robotic sculpture fabricated in cast aluminum and glass. The sculpture uses custom electronics to respond to changes in the local environment such as temperature and light. Three robotic flowers open each morning and close each night and are illuminated from within after dusk. Temperature determines how far the flower opens each day and In winter when the temperature is below freezing, the robotic flowers do not open. Through the warmer months, the Moonflower opens more and more each day until it is in full bloom during the hottest part of summer.

Moonflower also responds to the full moon and performs a special sequence of motion and light only at night when the moon is full.

Moonflower is currently on display through September 2017 in Boynton Beach, Florida as part of the International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium.
